On this, my 38th birthday, I felt an instinctive urging to surround myself with beautiful things which have withstood the tests and torments of growing old.  I bundled up, packed my camera gear, and headed out for a peaceful morning of reflection and appreciation of things made better by age as I explored centuries-old flint churches whose grace and beauty were evident despite the passage of time.
